PRESS RELEASE
Everytown for Gun Safety Endorses Michael Melillo
The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund has endorsed Michael Melillo for San Jose Unified School Board, Area 4. The endorsement, announced August 25, comes through Everytown's Demand a Seat program, which backs Moms Demand Action volunteers and Everytown leaders who step up to run for office. Michael is one of 54 candidates endorsed across 24 states in this round, and one of seven in California.
Michael is a Moms Demand Action volunteer and earlier this year earned the organization's Gun Sense Candidate distinction. As John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety said of this round of candidates, "These 54 candidates already know which gun safety laws their states are missing, and which lawmakers have been standing in the way."
School safety is a pillar of Michael's campaign: a district-wide safety advisory committee, safe routes to school so every student arrives and leaves campus safely, and fully funded mental health support on our campuses.
“We’ve long known that the people who spend years at school board meetings and statehouse hearings make the strongest candidates, and 54 more of them are on ballots this fall,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action.
